Omission, prepositions & reduction
متى نحذف أداة الوصل
يجوز الحذف بشرطين معًا: أن تكون الجملة محدِّدة، وأن تكون أداة الوصل مفعولًا لا فاعلًا.
The book which I bought is useful. = The book I bought is useful.
The book which explains the rule is useful. Not: The book explains the rule is useful.
في المثال الثاني which فاعل explains؛ ولذلك لا تُحذف.
حرف الجر رسميًا وغير رسمي
في الأسلوب الرسمي يمكن تقديم حرف الجر، وعندها نستخدم whom للعاقل وwhich لغير العاقل. لا نستخدم that بعد حرف جر متقدم.
The doctor to whom I spoke... formal
The doctor who I spoke to... informal
The tool with which I opened the box... formal
The tool which I opened the box with... informal
الكميات مع of
بعد الفاصلة يمكن أن تأتي كمية أو رقم ثم of whom للأشخاص أو of which للأشياء.
We met four volunteers, two of whom came from Alexandria.
The course has five units, all of which are useful.
اختزال جملة الوصل
إذا كانت الأداة فاعلًا، يمكن أحيانًا اختزال الجملة:
المعلوم active: نحذف who/which/that مع be إن وُجدت، ونستخدم verb + ing. مثال: students who study hard = students studying hard.
المجهول passive: نحذف who/which/that + be ونبقي التصريف الثالث. مثال: advice which was given = advice given.
لا نقول who studying؛ إما who is studying أو studying فقط.
